Twas the Night before the Inauguration

Twas the Night before the Inauguration

I wonder what you do on the night before you are inaugurated as President of the United States. Maybe a fancy dinner, a speech somewhere to supporters of your campaign, a gala event perhaps? I’m not sure. I do know I, for one, would have a lot of trouble sleeping. Excitement, nerves…the responsibility. Seems like the night before becoming President is, in some miniscule kind of way, a little like the night before you have your first baby. There too…

Part 2

O.K. so yesterday I told you about the 13 hour field trip to Austin. I didn’t have this blog during another field trip or I would have had to tell you this story…and it needs to be told…mostly to make sure I never, ever forget. Although I really don’t think that is possible. When Caroline was in 3rd and 4th grades, I was her Girl Scout leader. We read about this fun Girl Scout field trip to Sea World. It…

On the Road Again…

On the Road Again…

Brittany and I were off to Austin, TX yesterday with the entire 4th grade for an up close and personal look at Texas history at the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum and a tour of our state capital. Although we left VERY early, it was really a fun trip. I learned all kinds of facts….Texas is as large as France and England, combined. We have a state motto…friendship, and a state meal…chili. Never knew that. When we were doing a…

Metro Bill

Metro Bill

Big week this week as basketball got into full swing, the spring semester of HBU started (I love those Huskys!) and it seems everything is now back in high gear. I guess in all the morning rush yesterday, Bill inadvertently left his money clip on the bathroom counter. He realized it as he got on to the bus. For you out of towners….Houston has a great bus line and many, many business people ride it everyday to downtown. Bill has…

Cornerstone

Cornerstone

Yesterday was a GREAT day at our church, Tallowood Baptist. It was the culmination of years of praying, planning, and building. It was billed as the Dedication Day for the new worship center. Most of the former ministers and all the former choir directors were there, a 300+ reunion choir sang, lots of former members attended and the service was amazing. In between services, the cornerstone was put into the wall. As the workers began putting in the concrete and…

Lost and Found

Lost and Found

Lost. Found. Lost. Found. Lost….and still lost. You might remember an earlier post about my not being able to find Jacob’s Nintendo DS Christmas present. Then we found it….I called it my Christmas Miracle. So now, in the words of Paul Harvey, here is “the rest of the story….” We take the DS unwrapped to Arkansas. About 4:30 PM on Christmas Eve I decide to wrap it. After wrapping the black DS, I ask Bill….”where is Savannah’s pink DS…I need…

15 months and counting…

In November of 2007 Bill called and said….”what do you have going on January 9th?” I flipped ahead in the calendar and said, “well, that’s a Wednesday night so we’ll have church choir, etc.” He said, “that’s weird because I want to buy you tickets to see Celine Dion in concert but it says Friday, January 9th. Took us awhile before we figured out it was January 2009 they were talking about. The tickets sold out very quickly and for…

Burgers anyone…

Burgers anyone…

Here’s the deal. I love facebook. I think it’s fun. I think it’s hip and cool. The best part of the hip and cool thing is that my 60-something mom is the one who invited me to join and “be her friend.” When I accepted she began giving me facebook “tips” and was the first person to instant message me on facebook. How she learned all this, I don’t know. She claims she fell into facebook by accident….someone invited her,…

A few more things I thought were funny….

A few more things I thought were funny….

That when Paul Roback (who convinced me to go on that “unfortunate” sledding adventure) sent me an article from the Minnesota newspaper about a mom who “went on the ride of her life” on a sled I thought it was was me. I thought they had sent in my story. Until I got to the line where the mom is in a full body cast. Ouch! That when I took my kids to the Living Nativity at church they rode…

Crush

Crush

You might say Bill and Jacob had one of their first “man to man” conversations today. It happened when Bill was getting Jacob dressed for school. It was the first day back after Christmas vacation and I guess Jacob was thinking about all the opportunities that lay ahead in the upcoming year. He said, “Dad, (pause)…..I have a girlfriend.” “Who is it?” Bill asked, a little surprised. (sigh/slightly shaking his head with a little note of disgust)….”I never can remember…
