The best back to school EVER.

The best back to school EVER.

Our daughter Caroline had what can only be described as an EPIC summer. I’ve written a little about her time in Switzerland … which was incredible! She would text me from Switzerland though with countdowns for how many days left until she got to Zambia. She couldn’t wait to go meet “her kids”. Being there was a transformational experience, for sure. We have filled up the last several days listening to her stories from her work there. The way Family Legacy…

Olympics Obsession

Olympics Obsession

I am obsessed with the Olympics. Literally obsessed.  Night after night we stack up on the couch and watch whatever NBC picks for us to cheer that evening. Watching Michael Phelps win gold after gold (after gold) was so cool. And the Simone’s?! Katie Ledecky? They are all incredible!!! It’s truly amazing to see these incredible athletes do their thing. There have been a lot of neat stories to come from the Olympics … Michael Phelps coming back after…

Be the Good

Be the Good

Summer is quickly coming to a close as school starts for us next week. I see reminders everywhere … the stores have been selling school supplies and backpacks for weeks.  I am enjoying our last remaining days before it’s time to start filling those brown paper sacks with lunches again. Now that my kids are older, getting ready for school is a bit different.  I have one child who will go back to college, one who is applying to colleges,…

Choosing is the thing ….

Choosing is the thing ….

Last month Bill and I happened upon the “love lock” bridges while we were visiting Paris. As soon as we saw the locks I remembered that a friend said one of the “must do’s” in the city was for you and your love to put a lock on the bridge and then throw the key over into the Seine River. Throwing the key away symbolized that your love would be “locked” forever. The bridge was covered in locks! Thankfully…

Fiat Lux … “Let there be Light”.

Fiat Lux … “Let there be Light”.

One of the big jokes in our family has to do with Bill and his travel “guide books”. He buys a new book for every trip we take and keeps it in his hands as we travel around. He reads it incessantly (often to our chagrin). Sometimes we mouth to each other “are you listening?” and we all realize Bill is reading out loud to only himself. We think it is hysterical, but the truth of it is we’d probably…

Bonjour Paris!

Bonjour Paris!

Just a couple more things to share about our trip.  We took the train over from Switzerland to Paris … because “Paris is always a good idea”. On the train over I planned out each of our days while everyone else slept.  It turned out to be a perfect schedule and we quickly checked off the things we wanted to do. I even made a rain plan and guess what?  It rained! The first day we saw the Louvre which…

Sometimes you just need a little reminder …

Sometimes you just need a little reminder …

After an amazing lunch here … we packed up and headed out for our last Swiss adventure. We were going to a place called Schynige Platte, otherwise known as one of the most beautiful places on earth. We arrived at the train station there about 4:00. They said by the time we took the train up (the rack railroad the train runs on has been operating since 1893) we would only have 11 or 12 minutes to be there before…

Swiss-tas-tik

Swiss-tas-tik

So much of Switzerland seemed like a real life Disney World. Several times I told Bill that I felt like we were on the Truman show except it was set in Switzerland and everyone around us knew all the scenery was fake but we thought it was real. It was just that perfect. The second day was cloudy but we never got caught in any rain. Every now and then the clouds would break but even in the clouds we…

Swiss-wonder-land

Swiss-wonder-land

I still haven’t really gotten over the beauty of Switzerland.  I don’t think there are words to really describe it.  Just a few highlights from our days there: On Day One we decided to do Grindelwald First Mountain.  It said it was an “adventure mountain” and it lived up to its name.  We first took a gondola ride to the top of the mountain.  We then began by walking on a “cliff walk” which was a walkway built right on…
